I get asked frequent questions on skinning Winamp, thought I'd actually help.

After being asked lots of varying questions on how to skin Winamp, I thought it may help alot of you out to have a template from which to work from.

I used some base images from a skin cutter program I was recently sent as well as some images of my own to help you out. Lots of bugs in winamp skins (including my own) occur because of the sometimes difficult to place boundaries of the Bitmaps. This should help solve some of those problems.

You can find the images here: Winamp Boundaries

Of course, you could just hunt down a skin cutter and use that, but if you're starting off, I'd say it's best to get first hand experience.

Some extra tips that people sometimes overlook:

  • Don't like the slider buttons on the Volume and Balance? Crop them off the Bitmap and they won't appear.

  • The Position Bar Bitmap can bit cropped to a thinner size, allowing for much less obtrusive Posbar sliders.

Well, thats my burst of helpfulness over, if you have any more questions message away.

We present you with our fifth release, which is aptly titled "Chrysalis."

The milestone of pack #5 is more occurences of members joining, members leaving, and a whole new set of interesting ideas for the future. Our website is continuing to evolve, thanks to the ever present efforts of our own coding genuis Scree, who busies himself in front of a mass of cables, moniters, and bubbling green test-tubes to progress our site.

Routine and order is slowly beginning to creep into the workings of Breed (shock). Leep your eyes firmly glued (I assume no responsibility for any injuries this may cause) to our site.

Enjoy the pack!

This is a mistake I see so many people do here every time I visit devart, and I feel it is something which needs addressing, blurring the boundaries between two subjects. There is a fundamental difference between art, and design.

Design is based around aesthetics, the way something looks. Design it what is used for packaging, promotion, advertising, or, on a different level, the majority of wallpapers. People such as precurser get recognition not for their art, but for design. His wallpapers are good simply because they look nice, they are aesthetically pleasing.

Art is a form of expression, not necessarily in pictoral form, something which has been captured, an emotion, view, or interpretation which has been expressed or presented to the viewer.

Connoferster has seen this and assumed that it has been done not through the cause of art, but through the cause of design - simply to be original, and to attract attention. I think people need to consider whether what they are viewing is art or design, and react appropriately.

It is important not to accidentally dismiss a piece of art for a design, in doing this it will be viewed purely for its aesthetical, and not its emotional value.

I do not normally write here in such depth, but I felt this point needed making clear, your responses are welcome.

Rant over.
